Advanced control and supervision systems will allow the operation of the power system closer to its thermal limits (increase of power flow) without violating reliability constraints. The CSD-361 Phasor Measurement Unit is the first step towards more efficient and reliable network operation.
There are a number of applications for phasor measurements, such as 1) Continuous logging for detailed off-line post contingency analysis, e.g. Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS) applications;2) Improved state estimation for SCADA, EMS system wide protection and emergency control applications; 3) Power system oscillation monitoring and damping functions; 4) Loss of synchronism mitigation.
