Reactive Power Compensation and Power Quality Improvement

Overview

The GSC series SVG (Static Var Generator) by SIFANG. is a cutting-edge dynamic reactive power compensation device. The core of the system utilizes a mature cascaded structure from the power electronics converter domain. Each phase consists of multiple compact and standardized power units connected in series. Built on the company’s unified software and hardware control platform—proven in over ten thousand successful applications—the GSC series SVG delivers exceptional functionality, outstanding performance, and advanced control strategies. The GSC series SVG effectively mitigates voltage fluctuations, power factor instability, and harmonic distortions caused by the intermittent nature of wind and solar power generation, ensuring grid compliance and system reliability.

Suppress Voltage Unbalance

Eliminates negative sequence currents and suppresses three-phase imbalance, ensuring balanced and stable system operation.

Harmonic Compensation

Dynamic harmonic compensation, improving power quality and ensuring cleaner, more stable electrical supply.

Typical Cases

Zhangjiagang Yonggang Group Electric Arc Furnace Comprehensive Treatment

This project, implemented in 2013, was the largest SVG compensation application for electric arc furnaces in China at the time. As part of Yonggang Group’s technological upgrade, it introduced a short-process production line integrating a 110t electric arc furnace, LF ladle furnace, VD vacuum refining unit, continuous casting machine, and rolling mill. The system faced severe power quality issues, including voltage flicker, leading to low production efficiency.

Ethiopia Yaji Railway Traction Station Compensation Project

This project involves installing single-phase SVG units (3Mvar and 4Mvar) at the 27.5kV busbars of four traction stations, housed in outdoor containers. The system improves the average power factor of the traction substations to above 0.95 while ensuring low-order harmonics (3rd, 5th, and 7th) comply with IEC and GB standards.
