On September 26, 2024, the broadband oscillation mitigation project at Hebei Construction & Investment Qingsanying Wind Farm commenced trial operations in Guyuan, Zhangjiakou, marking the successful implementation of the first broadband suppression projects at renewable energy plants in China. The complete set of solutions for broadband oscillation suppression, protection control, and WAMS disturbance source location used in this project was provided by SIFANG.
This project innovatively integrates grid-forming and broadband damping optimization control technologies. Based on full-digital simulation, by connecting damping suppression equipment in parallel at the renewable energy plant end, it successfully reshapes the impedance characteristics of the renewable energy plant in the high-oscillation-risk frequency band, providing robust system security support for the transmission of renewable energy stations.
Addressing the broadband oscillation issues arising from large-scale wind power transmission via AC series compensation in this project, SIFANG, leveraging its technical expertise and extensive engineering experience in subsynchronous oscillation and renewable energy broadband control for thermal and nuclear power generators, identified the system oscillation mechanism in this scenario through semi-physical panoramic simulation and frequency-domain aggregated impedance optimization. The company proposed a system solution combining broadband oscillation suppression and emergency control. Upon completion, the project will effectively resolve power curtailment issues caused by system oscillations, significantly enhance wind power transmission capacity, and bring direct benefits to users.
As a pioneer in the engineering application of renewable energy broadband suppression technology, the successful implementation of the broadband oscillation mitigation project at Hebei Construction & Investment Qingsanying Wind Farm provides valuable references and insights for the broadband suppression of such renewable energy plants, exerting a profound impact on promoting the healthy development of the renewable energy industry.
